Melatonin Mitigated Salinity Stress on Alfalfa by Improving Antioxidant Defense and Osmoregulation

چکیده
Melatonin (MT) is a growth regulator and antioxidant that can resist peroxidation damage on plants caused by environmental stresses. In this study, the alleviation effects of melatonin alfalfa under salt stress were investigated in terms photosynthesis, enzymes, osmoregulation. The seedlings cultured 200 mM NaCl Hoagland solution. Five levels MT (0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 mM) applied as foliar spray. Generally, spray increased root length, surface area, height, leaf length width, aerial biomass, SPAD readings, content proline soluble protein, activities superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT). Malonaldehyde (MDA) was decreased beneficial dosage-dependent, excessive inhibited growth. alleviating more pronounced at 0.3 MT. This study suggested exogenous appropriate ameliorate adverse seedlings.

Evaluation of Biochemical Response and Defense Mechanism of Wheat Antioxidant Enzymes to Salinity Stress
Understanding the reaction form and biochemical response of wheat cultivars about the salinity stress can help to better understand the defense mechanisms and identify the indicators and biomarkers of tolerance screening for salinity stress in this strategic plant and other field crop. For this purpose, biochemical traits related to salinity tolerance of wheat cultivars were evaluated as a f...
متن کاملExogenous Melatonin Alleviates Cold Stress by Promoting Antioxidant Defense and Redox Homeostasis in Camellia sinensis L.
The unprecedented early spring frost that appears as a cold stress adversely affects growth and productivity in tea (Camellia sinensis L.); therefore, it is indispensable to develop approaches to improve the cold tolerance of tea. Here, we investigated the effect of pretreatment with exogenous melatonin on the net photosynthetic rate, the maximum photochemical efficiency of PSII, chlorophyll co...
متن کاملEffect of exogenous melatonin on growth, electrolyte leakage and antioxidant enzyme activity in rosemary under salinity stress
Melatonin is a new plant hormone that plays an important role in stress tolerance. For investigation the effect of exogenous application of melatonin on salt tolerance in rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.), a factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with three replications. The first factor was melatonin (50, 100 µM) and the second factor was salinity stress (6, 9,...
متن کاملOxidative Stress and Antioxidant Defense
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced by living organisms as a result of normal cellular metabolism and environmental factors, such as air pollutants or cigarette smoke. ROS are highly reactive molecules and can damage cell structures such as carbohydrates, nucleic acids, lipids, and proteins and alter their functions. The shift in the balance between oxidants and antioxidants in favor of ...
متن کاملOsmoregulation and salinity-induced oxidative stress: is oxidative adaptation determined by gill function?
Osmoregulating decapods such as the Mediterranean green crab Carcinus aestuarii possess two groups of spatially segregated gills: anterior gills serve mainly respiratory purposes, while posterior gills contain osmoregulatory structures. The co-existence of similar tissues serving different functions allows the study of differential adaptation, in terms of free radical metabolism, upon salinity ...
